Target avoidable work and evaluate handle-time changes alongside resolution, quality, repeat contacts, and consistently measured customer feedback. Define success before introducing an AI tool. A faster contact that leaves the issue unresolved should not count as an operational improvement.

Level AI describes conversation and survey insights, including inferred satisfaction. Keep that inferred measure separate from customer survey responses. AWS defines average handle time to include interaction, hold, and after-contact work, with additional handling for tasks. Check your platform's own calculation before comparing dashboards.

Where should an efficiency pilot begin?

Break the work into conversation, searching or holding, documentation, and follow-up. Review a sample of interactions with agents to identify the avoidable step. Choose the intervention that addresses that step: knowledge assistance, summary drafting, a simpler procedure, or a better escalation path.

Keep the pilot narrow enough to explain a result. Changing routing, staffing, training, and the assistant simultaneously makes attribution difficult. Record concurrent changes and show results by contact reason rather than relying only on one center-wide average.

What should the balanced evaluation include?

DimensionPilot measureInterpretation check
EfficiencyHandle-time components and total workWas work removed or moved elsewhere?
ResolutionRepeat contacts and reopened casesDid customers need another attempt?
QualityReviewed accuracy and critical errorsWere steps skipped to finish faster?
Customer feedbackSurvey result and response rateDid the respondent mix change?
Agent effortCorrections and supervisor supportDid hidden repair work increase?

These are proposed decision criteria. Choose guardrails and a review window with the teams responsible for service quality. Do not select thresholds after inspecting results; retain the original criteria and explain any revised decision rule.

How should you handle CSAT and NPS?

For this evaluation, record the exact satisfaction question, scale, timing, and eligibility rules. If your operation uses Net Promoter Score, keep that survey's question and calculation unchanged as well. Do not substitute a model prediction for a customer response and call the resulting trend equivalent.

Show survey coverage and the number of responses with every comparison. Segment by channel, issue, and customer population where sample size permits. If the pilot changes who receives or completes the survey, state that limitation before drawing a conclusion about customer experience.

What evidence should support expansion?

Look for a repeatable reduction in avoidable work while the agreed quality and resolution guardrails hold. Inspect adverse cases, not just the average. If the evidence is mixed, narrow the use case or repair the workflow before adding more queues.

Use the after-call work evaluation for documentation pilots and the customer experience measurement guide to define your broader dashboard.

What are the limits of this guide?

We have not run a controlled efficiency study or validated vendor outcome claims. Sources were checked October 19, 2026. Contact mix, staffing, survey response, and reporting definitions can change the apparent result. This guide proposes a measurement method; it does not establish a universally acceptable handle time, promise a satisfaction gain, or imply that any vendor produces better customer outcomes.
